September 2013 Update
Kyempapu welcomes two volunteers from Germany, Hannah and Valentin! With the help of the two engineers, Kyempapu has started construction of a new resource centre. We are looking for more volunteers with skills or just interested in construction.
The new resource centre will be comprised of offices, stores, a community library, a kitchen, and six rooms for volunteers.

October Quarterly Update
The past six months have been very busy for Kyempapu. These are a few highlights:
-Founder Sylvia Namukasa represented Kyempapu at the 5th World Environment Student Summit in Switzerland in September and connected Kyempapu to their environmental network
– Three interns from Spain and Canada (Sofia, Laura and Chris) were hosted this summer. Read about their experiences here!
-Kyempapu celebrated the International Day of Peace (September 1st) by planting trees for peace
-RainCatcher visited Kyempapu once again, dontating more water filters and checking up on those previously donated
-Professor Illah and Michael Taylor from Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh carried out field research on air quality as a result of using firewood to cook indoors (a common practice) and the link to children’s health problems
-This July teachers and volunteers were trained on the concept of the Eco School Program in partnership with CECOD-FEE, and a 3 day training program was founded in Bukomansimbi District
-Kyempapu commissioned two videos on two of its most important and recent projects:

Kyempapu Treasurer Deborah Mugerwa Nalwanga has just begun teaching English in China. We wish her all the best in continuing development work abroad.

Kyempapu is looking forward to hosting its first international volunteer this April. Martin Sommer met with Kyempapu’s Rosie Agoi, Assistant Secretary General & Programme Officer Education in the Uganda National Commission for UNESCO earlier this month in Cologne, Germany.

Kyempapu organized an exchange for one of the youth from Kirinda, Mathias Mugema, to spend two months studying at a school in Baltimore, Maryland where he is engaging in intercultural exchange.

Executive Director Sylvia Namukasa represented Kyempapu at the recent UN Training Course on Gender and Conflict Early-Warning Mechanisms in Dakar, Senegal. In October she was also funded to represent Kyempapu at the UNESCO Youth Forum in Paris.

Kyempapu received the Environment award at the Eno Act Now Forest Conference in Finland. The planting of trees is one of many environmentally themed activities Kyempapu is involved in.

Eleven schools in the community now have access to safe drinking water thanks to new rainwater collection tanks provided by RainCatcher. Read all about it.

Canadian partners Chris and Xing launched the Hong Kong University Exchange Student Swap fundraiser for KYEMPAPU. Outgoing exchange students donated bedsheets, pillows, phones, hangers, and anything else they couldn’t fit into their suitcase. Incoming exchange students bought them when they arrived in Hong Kong. 100% of proceeds were donated to KYEMPAPU. Check it out at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=158822467483341

I am one of the students that attended The Waldorf School of Baltimore. We were so happy to be a part of this program and meet Mathias Mugema!! we loved having him visit our school and i hope we will meet again!

I WOULD LIKE TO SEND MY APPLICIATION TO THE DIRECTOR OF KYEMPAPU, SHE HAS STARTED VERY BIG WORK TO CREATE KYEMPAPU WHICH WILL HELP LARGE NUMBER OF YOUTH IN UGANDA, AND I THINK IT WILL EXPAND TO THE E.A REGION, NOT ONLY THAT, ALSO KYEMPAPU HELPS YOUTH TO GET NEW IDEAS AND SO, EVEN I WISH ALL THE BEST TO KYEMPAPU, THANKS, THIS IS YOUR FRIEND JOHN KENNEDY.

Iam by names of kataabu joseph 23years old,aborn of kyakamunya l.c1,bukomansimbi district. My education: in 2010-2011; i obtained a certificate in TROPICAL AGRICLTURE from uganda national examination board @ mbuye farm school. 2005-2008:I obtained acertificate of education from (uneb) @ st monica h/s kabuwoko.and right now am aresident of kazinga l.c 1,wakiso district and working as an agriculturalist in that locality. therefore i wish to join kyempapu on voluteership in your project.

Great work by this non profit. Its so impressive and educative to the entire world for people to look back in the rural areas..not only down there in Uganda but also in any part of the world! Cut down trees, cut down your life! I have had very interesting stories about the Non-Profit from your sports co-ordinator Mathias Mugema! I would love to come to Uganda visit you KYEMPAPU
